Monte da Ribeira is situated in an area with a variety of habitats:

The scrubland is dominated by wild mastic, wild olive trees, arbutus trees and oak, with production of fleshy fruits and acorns which are very appreciated by wintering birds, highlighting the warblers, robins, lugres and thrushes.
The farmland is usually divided by walls and hedges, where low intensive rained agriculture is practised. It is favoured by a number of common birds like goldfinches, greenfinches, common finches, robins, white wagtails, blackbirds, red back shrikes and the sociable rooftop sparrows.
Olive groves and small plantations provide food between autumn and winter to a variety bird species like thrushes, warblers, starlings, robins and red-breasted robins, who are attracted by the precious olives.
Olive tree trunks have holes that can be used for cover or nesting by some common bird species like the Galician owls, the common creeper and the blue tits.
Small vineyards of frequently cultivated land do not attract a great variety of birds. However it is possible to observe species such as the common partridge who feeds on grapes, hoopoes and crested larks.
Temporary water paths associated with sugarcane fields mostly host nightingales.
